EDBA Executive Board Meetings are currently being held via Zoom on the Thursday evening of the week following the monthly EDBA meeting.

These are the positions and duties of the executive members. All positions are eligible for nominations.


President

  • Plan (location, time, and speakers) and Chair executive and membership meetings. These can be group meetings or on-line meetings.
  • Work with the executive for meeting topics and planning speakers for the education portion of the meetings.
  • President must be approachable to the membership.
  • Work with other organizations. E.g.: Alberta Bee Commission, Provincial Apiculturist, and other bee clubs.
  • Answer press and media reporters’ enquiries, speak on social media when required. 
  • Give a report to the newsletter editor at least 10 days before the next meeting.  

Vice President

  • Standing in for the president where necessary.
  • Act in a supporting role to the President, giving advice, etc.

Secretary

  • Notify members in advance of the monthly meeting: two weeks, one week, and finally one day before the scheduled meeting
  • Take minutes of executive and member meetings.
  • Submit the minutes to the Newsletter Editor (if elected) or submit the minutes directly to the membership within one week of the next meeting.
  • Engage the membership about events, businesses, beekeeping equipment for sale, etc.

Treasurer

  • Keep an accurate membership list and collect dues.
  • Keep financial records and providing an annual statement in the fall before the AGM.
  • Submit a financial return to the Alberta Non Profit Association registry in April each year.
  • Organize and co-ordinate beekeeper liability insurance and collect fees.

Web and Media

  • Website registration and website maintenance.
  • Update and maintain the website http:www.edmontonbeekeepers.ca
  • Provides content, posts meeting dates and monthly special events.
  • Maintains the swarm catchers list online.

Newsletter editor (if elected)

  • Create a newsletter and send it out to all paid up members so they receive it a week before the next meeting.
  • It should include the minutes of the last meeting, the president’s report, free classifieds, dates of future meetings, and a list of the current executive.

Directors (up to 4 ad hoc directors)

  • Provide advice on club matters and give suggestions for future speakers.
  • Should be attending the meetings and being involved as best they can.
